Vienna, VA - November 13, 2006 - MetaCarta, Inc., a leading provider of geographic intelligence solutions, today announced that more than ten partner and affiliated companies, including ObjectFX, Sarnoff Corporation and GeoDecisions will be demonstrating integrations of MetaCarta technology at the GEOINT 2006 Symposium November 13-16 in Orlando, FL. MetaCarta will be exhibiting in Booth #1105.
Gartner in its 2006 Emerging Technologies Hype Cycle report selected “location aware applications” as one of a handful of technologies it believes will have the greatest impact on businesses over the next 10 years. As part of this increased movement towards geographically intelligent solutions, MetaCarta technology is being embraced by large and small government organizations that serve intelligence, defense, homeland security and civilian customers. The unique capabilities it provides in swiftly and intelligently analyzing content geospatially.
“In an intelligence or homeland defense situation, analysts are inundated with information. MetaCarta’s technology allows them to sift through reports, files and other documents quickly,” said Randy Ridley, vice president and general manager, Public Sector for MetaCarta. “Because MetaCarta’s technology integrates so easily with other technologies, we are able to bring the benefits of geographic text search to an impressive variety of situations.”
Widely used by the intelligence community and in Federal agencies, MetaCarta bridges the gap between GIS and text search by using natural language processing (NLP) to identify geographic references. The results of a text search are literally viewed as icons on a map. The location of each document icon coincides with the geographic locations mentioned within the document. If a user wants to find all documents relative to a geographic area—a country, city, latitude/longitude pair or U.S. street address—MetaCarta Geographic Text Search (GTS) renders a map appropriately marked with icons representing every document that includes text pertaining to the identified location. By clicking on a document icon, a user gains direct access to the original document. The user is able to narrow or broaden the search area by zooming in or out on the map.
ObjectFX has developed a customizable Web-based geographic search client for use with MetaCarta GTS. The search client, based on the ObjectFX SpatialFX® Web Application Framework, provides a basis to build a custom Web search client to meet each customer’s specific needs for search, geospatial visualization and other capabilities. This allows an organization to develop a custom interface to meet its specific requirements. ObjectFX is exhibiting at Booth #400.
“We are very pleased to be working with MetaCarta to make advanced, customizable Web-based geospatial visualization available to their customers,” said Nick Thomey, president and chief operating officer, ObjectFX. “MetaCarta offers unique and compelling technology for geographic search and geographic referencing, and this integration allows us to jointly offer a best-of-breed solution.”
VideoQuest, offered by Sarnoff Corporation, provides easy and powerful tools to index, search, visualize and analyze motion imagery from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Through the integration of MetaCarta’s GTS appliance, an analyst can rapidly search traditional text with a powerful geographic search to find UAV motion imagery content about a place and view the results on a map. Sarnoff Corporation will be exhibiting at Booth #406.
“The value of adding MetaCarta’s geographic text search capabilities to VideoQuest is very high,” said Ron Krakower, director, business development for Sarnoff Corporation. “Intelligence analysts can now search for imagery geographically—dramatically decreasing response time.”
IRRIS®, exhibited by GeoDecisions, is an enterprise Web portal that supports transportation security and logistics for U.S. state and Federal agencies. It integrates and displays infrastructure data, live-vehicle tracking, near-real time weather, and active route conditions in a map format through a single, secure interface.
An open system, IRRIS can easily integrate live and operational data from a variety of sources and formats. The system draws transportation infrastructure information from more than 400 data sets, providing current data on roads, bridges, tunnels, road conditions, construction, or incidents. GeoDecisions is exhibiting at Booth #236.
“We are very excited about the integration of MetaCarta’s query engine into IRRIS,” stated Jon Pollack, vice president for GeoDecisions. “With a single mouse click, IRRIS users can leverage MetaCarta’s intelligent document search capability for any area mapped in IRRIS. The integration truly strengthens the IRRIS technology offering for many of our clients.”
Additional companies exhibiting integrations of MetaCarta technology include:
- EMC/Documentum
- ESRI
- Harris Corporation
- Intergraph
- MDA Federal
- Northrop Grumman Mission Systems
- Northrop Grumman TASC
- Parsons Institute for Information Mapping (PIIM)
- Raytheon
- SAIC
- Thetus
